WHO WE ARE
Sahal organization for relief and development abbreviated as SORFAD is a voluntary nonprofit and nongovernmental organization formed with the aim of promoting the current situation of Somali people through improvement of human rights situation, social services and HIV/AIDS prevention awareness, employment opportunities through marketable skills, good governance, food security and emergency responses.
The Organization for sahal organization for relief and development SORFAD was established on May 14TH, 2012 by a group of Somali intellectuals, social experts, and human rights activists. SORFAD is nonprofit making, non political and non sectarian. The aim behind the founding of this organization was to focus on the devastating problems faced by the Somalis inside their country especially severe conditions related to human rights violations and social development setback that has befallen on the Somali people as a result of the civil war. Founders of SORFAD felt that something must be done very quickly to safeguard and restore the lost dignity and social life wellbeing of the Somali people
WHAT WE DO
- Protection of human rights through educating the public of their rights
- Youth empowerment through vocational skills and job placements
- Improving community health through establishing centers providing health care services to IDPs and low income urban host communities
- Assisting internally displaced populations in terms of improving their livelihood and nutritional well- being through general food distribution, wet feeding, WASH and improving their reproductive health
- Protection of IDPs from GBV and giving counseling and psychosocial support to GBV and rape victims
- Combating HIV/AIDS and FGM through awareness campaigns and workshops
- Promoting peace and human rights by implementing projects aimed at encouraging the armed groups to lay down arms.
- Livelihood projects through labour intensive infrastructural rehabilitation with the aim of creating temporary employment for low income and vulnerable IDPs and host communities
- Agriculture and fishery development for coastal and farmland communities
- Promoting peace building and culture of peace
